Employee Benefits

Employers provide their employees with group benefits to provide for their protection and security.  Benefits help employers attract and retain quality employees and may include group health, life, dental and disability income insurance.  Many employers also sponsor voluntary plans options for additional life, dental, disability and critical illness coverage.  The use of these products allows employees to purchase coverage customized to their needs with little or no cost to the employer.

Group Health Insurance
Employer-provided group health insurance is the core benefit in an employee benefit package.  It is the benefit most often used and requested by employees.  Group Health Insurance is essential due to the high cost of health care.  Premiums are usually shared between the employer and the employee.  There are many options to choose from including PPO (Preferred Provider Organizations), HMO (Health Maintenance Organizations), HSA (Health Savings Accounts), and HRA (Health Reimbursement Account).

Group Dental Insurance
Group Dental Insurance provides for general dental care coverage.  Benefits for preventative and diagnostic care are usually paid at a higher percentage than other services.  Major dental procedures are paid at a lower percentage.  Benefits usually have an annual maximum. 

Group Life Insurance
Employees can provide their employees with a basic amount of life insurance.  The premium is usually funded solely by the employer.  Coverage is usually offered to all full-time employees and is customarily issued in amounts of $10,000 to $50,000.

Group Disability Insurance
Many employers provide disability income insurance for their employees.  This coverage replaces a portion of the employee’s income if they are disabled and unable to work.  There are two types of disability insurance – Short Term Disability and Long Term Disability.  Short Term disability has a short waiting period before benefits begin and may be paid for up to one year.  Long Term disability has a longer waiting period and is designed to be paid to age 65 or as long as the employee is disabled.

Retirement Savings Plans
Employer-sponsored retirement savings plan include qualified plans such as 401(k) plans, 403(b) plans, and SIMPLE plans.  Employees can use these plans to save and invest for their retirement.  Both the employer and the employee contribute to the plans.  Traditional pension plans continue to be phased out.  Qualified plans have become the mainstays for retirement savings.  There are many regulatory aspects of these plans and we can help you remain in compliance while keeping you apprised of changes.

Voluntary Benefit Plans
Employers often sponsor voluntary plans to employees including voluntary life, disability, dental, accident and critical illness coverage.  Premiums are usually paid solely by the employee and often can be paid through payroll deduction.  Participation is completely voluntary offering additional benefits to employees with little cost to the employer.    These plans are becoming increasingly popular and offer a great deal of flexibility.
